By the way, I'm calling
you all "my team" because you are supportive enough to read my
ramblings from time to time, and I'm going to need all the support I can get on
this journey. So, consider yourselves recruited! #teamjoggingforjack
I am about to embark on an
incredibly challenging but hopefully rewarding experience where in the end I
plan to have completed TWO half marathons (for all you math majors- that should
equal a full marathon, right?) plus a half marathon relay, and raised $4K (the
largest fundraising goal I've ever personally targeted). If I'm successful, and
I really really plan to be successful, I'll be in the happiest place on earth
to celebrate.... LAS VEGAS, NV!
So today, this wonderful,
scary, overwhelming, rewarding journey finally feels "kicked-off"! A
new undertaking never really feels quite started, for me anyhow, until I get
the right tools for the job and I get my ideas written down in black and white.
Today was the day! I have a training plan; I have a new pair of supportive yet
stylish pair of trainers, and a plan for reaching out and raising some money.

I also started getting
re-acquainted with half marathon tips and tricks, which reminded me of my first
half. I was actually tricked into running the Providence Rock and Roll
Half Marathon by lovely and apparently surprisingly in-shape mother, who has
completed something like 25 races now.... (Shout out to my freaking awesome
momma!). So once I realized what mom had gotten me into, I started training for
the race based on some half-marathon beginner's plan and I honestly had no idea
what to expect. My mom, the veteran, took me through the expo to prepare for
race day, an experience I was highly HIGHLY underprepared for. She got me
"goo", good pair of running shoes (which apparently is not ideal but
it worked out fine for me) and set me up for success. This time around, I think
I'm on my own to prepare- not something I usually am good at solo- so any
advice you'd like to share is welcome! For now, I'll try out some different
chews on my long runs, I'll break in my new supportive trainers, and invest in
clothing for comfort, to see if I can pull this off!
Wish me luck!
