"...well this is awkward"

Today was the first day I stood toe to toe with the enemy. It wasn't actually a conflict situation, but there was some hint of competition when I rolled into the Anderson Station got customers who took the airport shuttle, directly behind an Avis/Budget car, also there to pick up customers. When we parked, there were a few groups of people on the curb so I nodded and shrugged to the kid, then addressed the crowd asking of anyone needed either Enterprise or Hertz. The kid didn't say a word when I made this mistake, which almost cost him his rental, because after a few moments I found out he was from another company and corrected myself. The customers who had been waiting told me since I didn't ask for Budget customers right away, they were considering joining my customers in my minivan back to Enterprise so they didn't have to wait. I'm sure those customers wished they followed that instinct when they drove away in a Rio with a dude in a snowhat with hair past his shoulders, trying to be presentable in his short and tie.
